A tender Conversation

Chelsea was drawing a picture today and wanted me to help her write the name of who she was going to give it to. As we have done many times I asked her, "Chelsea, who are you going to give this to?" She said, Grandma Carver. "I said you mean Grandma Frederiksen." She said no, mom Im giving it to Grandma Carver. By now my eyes were welling up with tears because of the sweet innocence of my daughter who does not fully understand the world we live in. I asked her how she was going to give it to Grandma. With surety she replied, Im going to give it to "Bob" and then when grandma comes back down from Heaven he will give it to her. I was really getting watery now and thought of what innocence my little Chelsea beholds. It was hard to tell her that Grandma wont' be coming back down again. I continued to tell her "maybe she could talk to us in our dreams or maybe we could see her spirit but her body won't be back on earth for a long time. "For like 1 year, she said." Yes, she cant come back for Christmas or for your birthday or anything.
Chelsea was pretty sad as she understood a little more about life. I hope that I can continue to teach her all about my mom so that she never forgets her and her life. Its these tender momments that come to us when we just slow down a little and L i s t e n to our children as they talk to us.
